Hailing from Zagreb, Croatia, ANIMAL DRIVE were formed in 2012 by Jelusic, who is the primary songwriter and driving force behind the band’s sound. Dino was chosen by the late, great Paul O’Neill to tour as a featured vocalist on Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s most recent U.S. tour, which is how he crossed paths with Soto and which would ultimately lead to them becoming labelmates. Introduced to the label by the one and only Jeff Scott Soto, ANIMAL DRIVE immediately impressed the label’s executives thanks to the singer, Dino Jelusic who had an incredibly commanding presence befitting of the enormous hard rock songs that were being performed. The year is 2018. To some, the earth is flat and politics suck, but we are still listening to new albums. Some are good, some aren’t, but every once in a while, a new work would appear and you simply know it can’t possibly be bad. One of those works is “Bite!”, an album by Croatian hard rockers Animal Drive. This adrenaline packed 11 song bundle is just inviting you to stay a while and listen. And I’m not just saying this to promote local artists, they sound right all the way.
“Bite!” was released by Frontiers Music, and is obviously marketed towards its core audience. The fans know very well what to expect, so they won’t be disappointed. The sheer concentrated energy simply blasts into your eardrums. Every song is thought out to the smallest detail, and is performed with dedication. Even the first single titled “Tower of Lies”, featuring guest guitarist “Shorty” smelled like success. The songs that followed, “Had Enough” and “Time Machine”, just made everyone realize what is really coming. My thoughts on this album, after listening to it, are more than positive. Animal Drive is a young band which is good because with a killer album like this, all doors will be open for them. Dino Jelusić is doing vocals, Ivan Keller is playing the guitar, Roko Nikolić is rocking the bass, and Adrian Borić sits behind the drums.
