Maslanka’s Hymn for World Peace shows in a sound-intensive work how the path to peace begins with each individual and can be the beginning of something great. James Barnes’ Third Symphony, also known as The Tragic, sets to music the journey from grief and fear to reconciliation with life and its blows of fate in a sensitive and personal way. Freedom above all from Thomas Doss’ Symphony for Freedom celebrates freedom with intense sounds as a commitment to life. The composition takes up the ode to joy and thus closes the circle to the European anthem.
